The community is invited to submit naming proposals for MMSD's new elementary school, temporarily called Southside Elementary. The school is currently under construction in the Rimrock area, and houses the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center and Badger Rock Middle School located at 501 E. Badger Road.
The first step in the naming process is to seek official proposals from the community that meet the criteria found in Board Policy 6700, titled “Proposal for Naming a MMSD Building or Facility.” The window for submitting proposals will open at 8 a.m. on February 7, 2023, and close at 8 a.m. on March 9, 2023.
The new elementary school will be attached to the current building, and will serve between 400 and 450 students. This site is in the center of the community, providing one of the best walking school options available and is located next to a current City of Madison park. The new school as designed at this time will have the same attendance area that exists today for Allis Elementary School. We cannot wait to welcome Rimrock area students to their new neighborhood school!
We anticipate that the new school will open in the fall of 2023, but could be affected by construction timelines. There will be active communication with the school community throughout the process to keep families informed. Updates on the construction process can be accessed on the MMSD website.
